Wonder World Cave & Adventure Park
A quick 10-minute drive from downtown, this is one of Texas’s oldest show caves. Above ground, there’s a small petting zoo, a glass-bottom observation tower with panoramic views, and a little train ride through a wildlife park. It’s a fun way to spend an afternoon with the kiddos!
Skydive Spaceland San Marcos
If you’ve ever wanted to try skydiving, this local skydiving operation runs tandem jumps year-round and handles all the prep and safety briefings on site. The freefall lasts about 60 seconds, and on clear days you can see all the way to Austin and San Antonio. Reservations are recommended on weekends, and there’s a viewing area if you prefer to keep two feet on the ground and just want to watch the landings instead!
The Meadows Center For Water & The Environment
Operated by Texas State University, the Meadows Center focuses on spring conservation and research. The main draw here is the glass-bottom boat tours on Spring Lake which offer short, easy rides where you can see aquatic plants, turtles, and fish in the crystal-clear water. There’s also a small visitor center and nature trails if you want to spend a little more time learning about the local ecosystem.
Gumby’s Pizza
A long-time San Marcos favorite near the university campus. It’s casual, open late, and known for their “Pokey Stix” which is essentially garlic-butter cheese bread that’s basically a local rite of passage. It makes for a great stop after tubing the river or catching a concert downtown.
